For Interstate Carriers

FMCSA Tariffs — Made Simple

Every interstate moving company in the United States is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to maintain a written, published tariff describing their rates, surcharges, accessorial charges, and rules. Most movers dread it. MoveSpace gives you three options to get one up the moment you sign up.

Why this matters

Operating an interstate move without a published tariff is a violation of 49 CFR § 375.207. FMCSA can levy fines, customers can file complaints with the National Consumer Complaint Database, and arbitration boards routinely side with customers when the carrier can't produce a tariff on demand.

A real, defensible tariff is also the carrier's best protection — it puts the rates and rules in writing BEFORE the customer disputes a charge.

Three Ways to Publish on MoveSpace

Pick the path that fits where you are today. You can switch later.

1

Generate from your rates

Most movers pick this

Set your hourly rates, transport rates, surcharges, valuation coverage, and accessorial charges in your admin dashboard. MoveSpace generates a fully-formatted FMCSA-compliant tariff document from those values, including the required Section 4-1 / 4-2 / 5-1 boilerplate. Edit any value, the document updates automatically.

  • No legal drafting required
  • Auto-updates when you change a rate
  • Includes valuation, fuel surcharge, weekend/holiday rules
  • Permanently linked from each customer's booking page
2

Upload your existing tariff

For carriers with one already

Already have a tariff filed with a previous platform or attorney? Upload the PDF in your admin dashboard. MoveSpace hosts it on your tenant page at {your-name}.movespace.market/tariff so customers and FMCSA agents can pull it on demand.

  • Keep the document you've already paid for
  • Versioned — uploads track effective date + supersede prior
  • Booking docs auto-reference your uploaded version
3

Adopt the platform tariff by reference

Fastest path — for new carriers

Brand new to interstate? Adopt the MoveSpace platform tariff by reference. It's an FMCSA-formatted document with industry-standard rates and rules you can use as-is. You set your own rate values inside it; the structure, boilerplate, and legal language is shared.

  • Zero drafting time — live in minutes
  • Reviewed against current FMCSA rules
  • Switch to option 1 or 2 at any time

Every MoveSpace tariff includes

Hourly labor rates (per crew size)
Long-distance transport rates (per CWT × distance)
Fuel surcharge schedule
Travel-time rules (origin → first stop)
Weekend, holiday, same-day surcharges

Note: MoveSpace provides the publishing infrastructure. Final responsibility for tariff accuracy and FMCSA compliance remains with the motor carrier. The platform does not act as a broker and does not file tariffs on behalf of carriers — each carrier publishes under their own operating authority.
